Commercial LED Strip Lights: Project Buying Guide

Order commercial LED strip lights against a run schedule. Give each run an identifier, show where it starts and ends, and ask the supplier to list what comes with it. This makes quotations comparable and gives the installer a way to match the delivered parts to the drawing.

Define What Each Trade Will Receive

A lighting plan identifies where the light goes. A purchase schedule should also identify who supplies the strip, mounting parts, diffuser, leads, power supplies and controls. An enclosure supplied by a millwork contractor, for example, leaves the lighting supplier a different scope from a complete illuminated assembly.

ItemRecord before asking for a quote
Light sourceStrip reference, desired colour appearance and control method
Mechanical fitInstallation section, available clearance, diffuser or housing and connection space
Run and feedRun ID, finished length, power-feed position and lead exit
Supply scopeIncluded components, items by others and any assembly work
Spare partsRepeatable part reference and separately quoted spare quantities

Use the LED strip light product range to start the source review. Where a separate silicone housing is required, include the profile and strip fit reference. Send a section drawing to custom silicone extrusion if the mounting interface calls for a different shape.

Approve One Representative Run

Choose a run that includes the conditions most likely to affect the finished appearance: a visible joint, a change in mounting surface or a tight cable exit. Use the intended strip, housing, control and mounting arrangement. Review the appearance from the normal viewing position and check that the assembly can be installed and serviced in the space shown.

Keep the strip reference, sample identifier and drawing revision together. If the supplier proposes a substitute, ask which characteristics and interfaces change. For the electrical scope, use the strip power and load schedule guide and identify who will confirm the power and control equipment for the installation.

Carry the Run IDs Through Packing and Handover

For a rollout across several fixtures or areas, ask how the run IDs will appear on the packing list. A useful delivery check pairs each run with its ordered strip or assembly, lead arrangement and agreed accessories. For lengths that look alike, show how installers will distinguish feed position or control type. Use the packing and order guide to agree the shipment breakdown.

AlisterTech can review your drawings and sample requirements against the requested supply scope. See the manufacturing and assembly process and technical resources when identifying the documents and interfaces to discuss with the quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I send to quote commercial LED strip lights?

Send the run schedule, installation section, intended appearance, power and control requirements, estimated quantities and the list of parts you want quoted. Identify any items already specified or supplied by another trade.

Can I compare quotations using price per metre?

Use price per metre once the strip specification and supply scope are comparable. Check how leads, housings, mounting parts, sample preparation and assembly are listed.

What should the first sample include?

Use a representative run with the intended strip, mounting arrangement, diffuser and connection. Include a joint or cable exit when that detail affects installation or appearance.

How can I make repeat orders easier to match?

Record the approved sample reference and drawing revision with the ordered components, then include those references on repeat enquiries. Identify any proposed changes before ordering.
