Custom Length LED Strip Lights: Prepare a Cut List

Segment planning illustration.

Custom length LED strip lights need a segment schedule that separates the lighted strip, finished silicone assembly and connection cable. AlisterTech can review your cut list together with the silicone section, source configuration and end details, then confirm the proposed supply and sample scope in the quotation. Start with the drawing or rendering you already have. See how a project moves from concept to product.

Define the reference points

Separate visible light length, finished assembly and connection cable.

Order by segment

Record the quantity, product option and cable exit for each installation reference.

Distinguish Four Different Lengths

Begin with the installation reference points. Does the drawing dimension the visible light opening, the housing, or the complete part including its end connections? If two buyers use the word length differently, otherwise similar quotations may describe different supplies.

Length to recordBuyer meaningWhat must be confirmed
Required visible lineThe appearance needed within the designPermitted gaps, end appearance and viewing position
LED strip segmentThe powered strip portionExact model and designated cut increment
Finished assemblyThe supplied part including agreed end treatmentDimension reference points and any agreed tolerance
Connection cableCable from the light to its connection pointExit direction, connector scope and cable-length reference

Start with the LED Strip Lights family when the source is being selected separately. An empty silicone tube is a different supply item and has no electrical cutting increment of its own.

Check Feasible Cut Units Before Releasing the Order

Cutting rules belong to the exact strip configuration. Do not transfer the rules from another source merely because its voltage or outside width looks similar. Manufacturer documentation such as Waveform's strip support information distinguishes the relevant product, cutting points and connection options. Its accessory references do not establish compatibility with AlisterTech products.

For a simple arithmetic example only, suppose a hypothetical strip permits cuts every 50 mm and the requested strip portion is 935 mm. Whole cut units give nearby candidate lengths of 900 mm or 950 mm. Neither is automatically an acceptable finished solution: end treatment and the installation space must still be reviewed. These numbers are not an AlisterTech model specification, tolerance or cutting instruction.

If the project needs a fixed overall size, show that constraint before approving the source. Ask for a feasible proposal rather than cutting through an unknown circuit. For finished Neon Flex, use the separate Neon Flex cutting guide and the exact published configuration.

Give Every Segment an Installation Reference

Use your drawing's part IDs or room references to distinguish similar lengths. Record the quantity of each part, white-light or colour-control option, cable exit and required termination. If a section appears twice but needs different cable directions, keep those versions distinguishable in the schedule.

Schedule fieldWhat to enter
Buyer part referenceThe ID used on your installation drawing
Product and light optionExact source or model; colour/CCT and control requirement
Requested dimensionValue, units and measurement reference points
Allowed adjustmentWhether a nearby feasible cut-unit length can be considered
Ends and cableEnd treatment, cable exit, lead length and connection requirements
Quantity and groupingNumber of each segment and any requested installation grouping

Grouping or labelling requirements should be requested in the enquiry and confirmed in the quotation. Do not assume a reel order includes individually prepared, connected or installation-labelled segments. See connector types when defining the connection detail.

Match Segment Labels to the Approved Order

For a cut-to-length order, LED strip packaging needs to follow the agreed segment schedule. Ask the quotation to define any individual labels, grouped packs, reels and packing-list fields; these are requirements to agree, rather than services automatically included with every strip order.

  • Use one part reference: carry the buyer’s segment ID from the drawing and cut list onto the requested label and packing-list entry. Include the quantity and installation group so similar lengths remain distinguishable.
  • Identify the approved revision: record the drawing revision and, where a sample has been approved, its reference. A changed length, source or end arrangement needs its own clear revision or part reference.
  • Describe connection direction: use a sketch with a defined viewing orientation to identify the cable exit and each end. Distinguish mirrored parts even when their overall lengths match.
  • Agree the dispatch check: match the requested part, revision, quantity and end detail to the packing list. Confirm the pack or reel format and any handling requirements for the selected configuration.

Send AlisterTech the grouped cut list and label requirements with your quotation brief. Keep the agreed packing format and preparation scope on the order; a project photograph or general reel description does not define that scope.

Separate Cut Length From Electrical Run Length

A physically cuttable strip is not necessarily suitable for the entire proposed electrical run. Supply voltage, operating load, conductors, connections and controller arrangement affect the design. A reel length is not a universal single-feed guarantee.

Mark the available supply positions and cable routes, then review LED strip voltage drop planning. Ask the appropriate technical support to confirm the permitted arrangement. Do not join separate outputs or change operating voltage based on a generic length calculation.

For a finished LED Neon Flex requirement, state the complete assembly scope. For an empty housing that needs a changed section or mounting interface, use Custom Silicone Extrusion. Neither request automatically includes a redesigned LED circuit or an arbitrary cutting interval.

Approve One Representative Order Detail

Before releasing repeated segments, agree a representative drawing or sample that shows the length reference, light appearance, end space and cable exit. Confirm any dimensional acceptance requirement for the selected part; do not infer a tolerance from a general manufacturing statement.

Use Technical Resources for applicable files and Manufacturing for the development context. Send the cut list, section drawing, intended source, environment, total quantity and destination with the enquiry. Confirm sample scope, finished-segment preparation and any grouping in the quotation before treating them as included services.

Review each required segment
Send the drawing reference, dimension points, quantity and selected source. The exact configuration determines feasible cut units and the space needed at the ends.
Agree the supplied format
Discuss cut lengths, continuous lengths, reels or assembled formats. Define the cable exit and termination required for each part before comparing quotations.
Set the sample and production basis
Review a representative drawing or physical sample. Confirm finished dimensions, end details and the agreed supply scope before releasing repeated segments.

A shopping-mall buyer started with a design rendering. AlisterTech made a physical sample and supplied silicone LED strip lighting for the furniture showroom. The installed photographs show curved light lines within the commercial display.

A rendering can start your enquiry. Add the intended dimensions and segment quantities so we can discuss the feasible product, connection arrangement and sample scope for your own project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can LED strip lights be supplied at any exact length?

The feasible powered strip length depends on the selected configuration and permitted cutting points. State the required finished dimension and ask for a feasible proposal before ordering.

Is lead cable included in the quoted strip length?

That must be defined. Record the strip segment, finished assembly and cable dimensions separately, with clear measurement reference points.

Is a total metre quantity enough for a custom-length enquiry?

No. Add the quantity of each segment, source or model, connection detail and cable exit so the proposed supply can be compared accurately.

Does a silicone profile change the strip’s cutting interval?

Not by itself. Housing geometry and the strip circuit are separate. Any proposed source change needs product-specific confirmation.

Are cut segments automatically ready to install?

No. Confirm which ends, connections, cables, checks and grouping are included. Site installation and supply/control compatibility still need review against the agreed product.

How can I keep repeat orders consistent with the approved cut list?

Give each segment a reference and retain the approved strip model, finished length, lead length, cable exit and end detail. For a repeat quotation, identify any revision instead of relying on total metres alone. The sample approval checklist helps keep the accepted assembly attached to the order.
